I would rate this 4/5 … quite good and to the point

I wonder why the vast majority of dogs up for adoption, here and elsewhere, are male. I am having trouble finding a small female dog to adopt – ANY kind of small female… I’d love to know why.

    • Who knows why really, statistically there must be more male dogs to begin with. Males are often left behind more often for being barkers or leg lifters.

    • I have Jika here with me now. She’s a Sheltie mix and no more than 20 lbs. She’s a wonderful girl with the softest fur and she gets along really well with other dogs and cats. She loves to play fetch and absolutely adores belly rubs. She walks like a pro on a leash and goes to sleep in her crate at night totally on her own. No need to close the door. She won’t wander around the house and will ask for the door when nature calls. She’s really great. She’s not up on the web site yet but you can find her under my Face Book album entitled “Meet my fosters”. (I foster rescues for Sophie).

    Hello
I saw Mackenzie is still on the site of the Underdog, but not on petfinder. Was she adopted?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I am just wondering, I noticed you have Sully on your adoption page, but I also saw him on the website http://www.underdogs.org in Westmount. Where is this dog staying?

    thanks

    Hi,

I’m currently looking to adopt a dog (2 years old max.)

I’m very patient and have a lot to give.

I love outdoors, a medium size dog that enjoy walks
    would be perfect.

Check the SPCA blogspot for twice-weekly postings on found animals.

Email us at perdu@spcamontreal.com with a photo and as much identying information as possible for both dogs. We have made matches on lost animals even as late as three months after they have disappeared!

    Hello,
    URGENT

Sophie I adopted ‘Chance’ now Gimmel several years ago from you. While visiting my parents place in LAVAL this past weekend Mar 7/09 I took the dogs for a run in the woods (something I always do).
Gimmel and a new friend Zak (Husky) got lost and so far have not been found.

I can send you pictures of both he and Zak. Please, if you have connections in Laval or Montreal North I need your help.
I have contacted Bereger Blanc, the SPCA and the police several times.
I will be placing an ad in the local paper today but if you can get their picture posted with other rescues around town I would be very grateful. I am sick with worry.

    Merci.

    Hi,
I am trying to rescue a dog, i am 12, but i am very experienced with dogs, i have had dogs my whole life, i know it costs a lot of money to have a dog, and i dont want a giant dog, i want a medium sized dog, so i was wondering what kind of dog you would recommend?

    Hello Sophie,

I have been looking to buy a Boston terrier for some time now. I was going to buy from a breeder but would way rather adopt an abandoned dog and give it a second chance. I have been around animals all my life. As I was growing up my father was a RCMP dog handler so there was German Shepard’s around all the time. I would love to adopt Peanut 3 or at least foster her. I have no other animals or small children living with me. I live by myself in an apartment complex. I will be going to school in the fall just in the evenings so I will have lots of time to give attention to her. I am going on holidays for a week next week and will be back in the city Monday the 21st of July. If I am eligible for adoption of peanut 3 when I get back please please give me a call at (514)715-0117.
    Thanks for your time,
    Brendan

  12. Ashley says:

    hello,

my name is ashley and I work at a half way house for douglas hospital. We have recently been discussing adopting a dog for the house. And I was wondering if you had any suggestions on a dog from your shelter that would suit this new family.

In total there are 3 residents but we are expecting 9, and 2 staff 24 hours, we have a fenced in small backyard and a small walking distance from the park. We would need a dog who is still somewhat young considering we would like to bring it to the park to play. One that is not afraid of people since there are many new faces to get used to, and of course not too loud since we are a hospital organization.

And finally a dog who is not scared of men would be preferable since there are lots of men here. There are no other house pets nor children so that is not a problem. So if you get the chance I would love to hear your suggestions.
    Thanks

  13. Julie Belanger says:

    Hello.
I have been looking to adopt a small dog for awhile now, but haven’t found “the right one” yet. I would much rather adopt from a shelter to give a poor dog a “second change”.
I have two children, ages 5 and 20 months, and they are extremely good with animals. We also have 2 cats that are fine with other animals as well. We live in a lower duplex, with a fenced in backyard.

If you happen to have small dogs that are good with children and cats, please please please let me know. I would like to complete my family.
Also, I don’t know if this helps your decision, but I am a stay at home mom while my husband works, so the dog wouldn’t be left alone for long.
    Thanks

  14. Estelle Raksenberg says:

    Hi,

I would like very much to adopt a small dog. I had a retired 4 year old female chihuahua from a breeder for 5 months but she was allergic to my 2 cats. (dander and fur). Constantly sneezing and coughing due to her small nose and small trachea. After 4 visits to the vet and numerous medications including cortisone, the breeder took her back, I lost my deposit and she has now re-sold her. But I still miss her terribly.

I live alone in a 1 1/2 room apartment, have 2 cats, both adopted strays, about 1-2 years of age. One female and one male, both neutered. I would love to have a small, loving, paper trained dog again, not a puppy. A dog that likes to be held and petted and gets along well with 2 gentle cats.

I also live in an apartment and I would be evicted if the dog barked.

My name is Estelle and I live in Montreal East. Unfortunately I am on welfare and cannot afford to pay a lot but I have a lot of love to give.

My home phone number is 514 525-9594.

I use the Internet at the Frontenac library once a week so maybe a phone call would be better if you need to reach me.

    Thank you.

    Estelle Raksenberg

  15. I have to disagree with the comment about your web site not being clear enough. I found it very easy to navigate and understood right away that Pet Finder was for the pets you have available for adoption. The pics are great and the info very concise. I encourage you to keep up the great work and hope to be of some help by adding your web link to my web site. I look forward to seeing my little foster puppy and will work very hard with you to find him a good home and take in more fosters . God bless you Sophie!

  16. Lawrence Patenaude says:

    Hi Sophie,
A few months ago we lost our nine year old beautiful female golden to epilesy. It has been devastating for all of us including our nine year old yellow lab. He is lonely and grieving. If you happen to come across a 2-5 year old female golden, please get back to us. Vincent loves children and Female Goldens. He doesn’t have much tolerance for puppies or male dogs. We have great references, Averil Robinson, Animatch. We cherish our animals.
