Foster Homes

Foster homes are always urgently needed to provide temporary shelter until a permanent home is found. If you cannot commit for 10 years, fostering is an excellent option. For more information contact Sophie at 514-523-5052.

    Sophie,

I would like to offer my love and care and provide a foster home. If possible small male dog. Due to my minor allergies, I can only take poodles, bichon frisé or similar type of dogs.

    Hi Sophie,

I’m a huge dog lover, however, I have never owned one of my own. I’m seriously contemplating getting one but I want to be completely sure before I make that kind of commitment. I thought that fostering a little pooch would give me a good idea of weather or not this is a good time for me to have one long term.

I live alone in an 200 unit apartment building in Cote St-luc with dog parks on every corner. Lots of tenants here own dogs of all sizes. Why not pitch in and do a good deed and add one more to the happy mix!!!

Ideally, I would love to foster a small breed such as a Shih Tzu, Bichon, Lasho Apso…The doggie I want to get is a Miniature Pinscher so, if you’ve got one of those, please please please pick me!!

    Regards,
    Laura

Please let me know if I am a good fostering candidat

  8. Chance K.M. says

    Hello Sophie!

My name’s Chance and I’m very much interested in fostering a dog. I live in an apartment with my two roommates and one cat. The apartment is on the third floor and is big enough for a small to medium sized dog. There’s a large dog park four blocks away from the apartment. Parc Lafontaine. I’m 19 years old and a student at McGill University. I am also a first time caregiver. I have never owned a dog of my own but last summer in Indonesia (my place of birth), I found four abandoned lab-mix puppies. I took them in, bottle-fed and cared for them for three months. They were about 5 days old when I found them. I took them to the vet for their shots and to get them dewormed. After three months, because I was coming to Canada to study, and because my parents didn’t want to keep them, I found them all good homes. So far, that is the only hands-on experience I have with dogs. I have been in Montreal for a year now, adjusting to life in a new place, but at the end of the day, I miss having a dog around. Now that I’m well adjusted with my own apartment and familiar with my surroundings, I am ready to help. Please let me know!

    Take care,
    Chance K. M.

    Hi Sophie,

I am a student McGill living in an apartment downtown, and would love the opportunity to foster a dog, preferably on the smaller scale, for Sept. I have one roommate who has already who would also help with dog care! I’ve grown up with a dog since I’ve been a kid and so understand the commitment it requires. Please let me know if you have a dog in need that I can help!

    Thank you,
    Ashley

  13. Mieka says

    Hello,

I’d like to volunteer as a foster home for dogs. I live with my boyfriend in a very large loft in Montreal that happens to have a large terrace. Although, apartments are not ideal, we live near dog parks. Also, we can bring the dog to work everyday with us. We happen to have a business in the old Montreal (which also has a dog park).

I have experience with dogs. However, the dog should not be a puppy because of the long walks to work (1h x 2 per day) and should know basics commands. We are very loving and have a dog proof home for fostering.

If you are interested, you can contact me by mail anytime.

    Mieka

    Hi Everyone!

Well I hope someone can help me out. My mother has 3 small dogs, and they are by far treated like royalty. However something unfortunate happeded…My mother was suddenly admitted in the hospital, and diagnosed with a rare form of dementia and will never be ebale to return to her home again.

I in turn have taken on all responsability and have been taking care of her dogs in her home. I comnnute everyday to her house and feed them and walk them…BUT I am also 7 months pregnant with my third child, and cannot take care of her dogs for very much longer.

These 3 dogs are her pride and joy, and we both love them very much. I need to find them a LOVING home, and need to be reassured that they will be safe and live their rest of lives. They are mature dogs…about 7 or 8 years old.

I am scared taking them to the SPCA because they will most probably be put down, because of their age….(that is what I was told) AND the SPCA will not accept the two out of the three dogs because I do not have the original adoption documentation that came with the dogs when they were adopted.

I would desperately like for someone to help me out here!

    Thank you,
    Nikki

    Hello Sophie,
I heard about you from a friend of mine (Nick Longfellow). Recently my family dog died and I would love to foster a dog in need. I can’t commit to a long term engagement but myself and my 2 roomates would love to help you cause by fostering. One issue, it has to be a smallish sized dog, as that is what is allowed in my lease. My roomates and myself are all on different schedules so there should be someone available at all times to give the creature attention. Please get back to me and I would love to come by and see what critters you have.
    Best regards,

    Hi,

we live in a house, close to parks. We are not ready to commit for 10 years on a dog but we like animals. We already have two cats, my husband had a dog before me :) and in the summer I take equestrian lessons.

We work full time but I can come home at lunch.

We would like to be foster home, to give a second chance to a dog. We prefer medium-large dog, maybe not a puppy (I cannot be at home that often ;) ).

If we can help, give us news.

    Thanks
    Sonia

    Hi Sophy!

I have never had a dog. I am a cat person, but I have an allergy to my favorite animals. I want to have a pet, but since I am planning to move from Montreal and owing a pet is a big deal, since I don<t want to be put in a situation when I will have to give up my animal, I would like to be able to foster a midium size dog for few months that are left before my moving. There is a possibility that my sister will also be interested, although she is staying in Montreal.
    Thank you, natalia.

    Hello Sophie

My son urgently needs someone to temporary shelter his English bulldog for a month while he is going to a medical treatment.
Can you please match us with one of your volunteers that would like to help him so that he doesn’t have to give his dog away to animal shelter.
Gorda is a very friendly dog that requires very little time, a short walk or a backyard is enough to keep her happy.

    Hi Sophie!
I have lived in an appartment for about 10 years with my family and never had the space to keep a dog or cat. I actually grew up with lots of animals (cats, dogs, rabbits, fishes, birds) when I was little and we had our own house in another country.
But starting August 31st, I will be moving into my new house that also has a back yard. I am very ready to give love to an animal again. Fostering a pet (preferably a dog) is my best option now since I cannot ensure I can commit to one that’s my own till the end of life. But I would love to be able to babysit our four-legged friends until they find new permanent homes!
PLease let me know if there are any furry friends that I can take care of.

I am looking for a loving warm home for my wonderful small dog, Bella. She is a mix of Jack Russell and Beagle. She is adorable to look at. Almost 5 years old and fully trained. And completely upto date with all her vaccinations. She was spayed when she was a puppy. She needs to be an “only” dog and would love to give her affection to someone who would give her some attention and love.
    Thanks.

I would be interested in fostering a dog. I have a sheltie and 2 cats. I work in a boarding kennel, so the dog may be able to come to work with me. I would to foster a small or medium sized dog that is social with people, dogs, and cats. We live close to 2 large parks, and my dog would love someone to play with. I’m interested in dog training, and would give it basic obedience training also.

    Thanks for your time

I would consider a temporary foster dog but I have a few problems. I have experience, love them and am retired so have the time. I live in a senior’s apartment building and a large loud barking dog would cause complaints although I am allowed pets. I go over the US border once a month so it would need a rabies certificate. I live near parks and my hobby is working so Maybe? There are a few breeds that cause allergic reactions so do you think you have a match? Phone 514-484-3599

  38. Kate says

    Hi Sophie,
I have been thinking about offering my services as a foster mom for a while and I know this is a particularly difficult time of year with all the moving abadonments.
I have never owned my own dog but I dogsit my friends dog 2-3 days a week and was brought up with dogs all my life. I work from home and am here most of the day and am able to take dogs out for decent walks in the day. I will have my friend’s dog here full time for the first 2 weeks of July so I would only be able to foster dogs that he could get on well with. He gets on with most dogs except very dominant breeds.
Please contact me if you need help and I would be happy to offer my services.
    Thanks,
    Kate.

  40. Ghislaine Bochi says

    Hi Sophie,
Just to let everyone know, I adopted the dog called Gary from you about 2 weeks ago. He was the one you saved from “Death Row” at the SPCA.

Firstly when we got him, he looks so sad, his teeth were in bad shape, he cried when he played and we thought something must be wrong with his legs.

Well after two weeks, he has had good food, and great hair cut, and made good friends with our dog Buddy. We moved to New Brunswick, where we have a farm. Gary who we now call Scooby is playing constantly with Buddy. He is happy, and doesn’t complain too much about that leg, as he had when we first got him. Buddy is happy to have him as a friend. Scooby is so good. He hasn’t had any accidents, he is sweet and really a joy.

We still don’t understand why he would have been given to the SPCA to be put to sleep. He is wonderful. We love him dearly.

If anyone is thinking about adopting or fostering a dog from Sophie, I can only say, if she approves of you and you have a chance to better a dog’s life, GO FOR IT! All of us, my husband, my dog, my cat… and now Scooby are so happy we did.

Thanks again Sophie. You matched us up with the perfect dog. I think, he thinks we are perfect too.

    Hey there Sophie,

Just thought I would put it up here as for the offer of a foster home, and or home checks.
I presently have a large male, 2 cats not scared of dogs.
    And a daughter.
I can foster any puppy up to age 4 month, male female, after that must be female.
I go home at lunch, and with a puppy, I can make daily little breaks too during the work day..
